Ravens release Josh Johnson, raise Melvin Gordon III and Kenyan Drake, sign Jeremy Moon

Widespread injuries have forced the Ravens to make a number of roster changes ahead of Sunday’s Week 3 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Ravens ruled out seven players from the game at M&T Bank Stadium, leaving their roster in a difficult position.

Baltimore released veteran backup Josh Johnson to make room. Johnson has been the Ravens’ No. 2 quarterback the first two weeks behind Lamar Jackson, but his backup on Sunday will be Tyler Huntley. Since he’s a seasoned veteran who won’t have to go through any waivers, the Ravens could re-sign Johnson next week.

Second-year midfielder Jeremiah Moon was named to the 53-man squad while Odafe Owe is dealing with an ankle injury. This will be Moon’s regular-season NFL debut. The former Florida undrafted player performed well in training camp and recorded a catch in his second preseason game against the Commanders.

With Justice Hill out with a foot injury, the Ravens promoted running backs Melvin Gordon III and Kenyan Drake from the practice squad to have three running backs ready for Sunday’s game, which is expected to be played in the rain.

This will be Gordon’s first game since Nov. 20 of last season with the Denver Broncos. After playing a key role on last year’s team, Drake rejoined the Ravens on the practice squad this week, but this is his first experience in Todd Monken’s new offense.
