RimWorld is a sci-fi colony simulation starring a clever AI storyteller. Inspired by Dwarf Fortress, Firefly and Dune.
RimWorld is a story generator. It is designed to co-create tragic, twisted and triumphant tales of trapped pirates, desperate colonists, famine and survival. It works by controlling the “random” events the world throws at you. Every thunderstorm, pirate raid, and traveling salesman is a card that will be brought into your story with the help of the AI Storyteller. There are several storytellers to choose from. Randy Random does crazy things, Cassandra Classic wants to cause anxiety, and Phoebe Chillax loves to loosen up.
Your colonists are not seasoned settlers – they are shipwrecked survivors who crashed a passenger ship that was destroyed in orbit. You can come out like a nobleman, accountant and housewife. You’ll rally more colonists by capturing them in combat and drawing them to your side, buying them from slave traders, or taking in refugees. So your colony will usually consist of a motley crew.
