Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand didn’t hesitate when asked to name the strongest finisher he worked with during his time at Old Trafford.
Rio Ferdinand rates Ruud van Nistelrooy as the best finisher he worked with during his time at Manchester United.
The 44-year-old Ferdinand hung up his boots in 2015 and spent 12 years at Old Trafford after joining the Red Devils from arch-rivals Leeds United for £30 million. The defender won six Premier League titles and the Champions League before moving to United in 2014 and playing alongside a host of superstars at Manchester United.
The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Wayne Rooney were all part of the United side that dominated domestically during Ferdinand’s career. But when Ferdinand was asked about United’s deadliest striker, Ruud van Nistelrooy got the nod.
In an interview with Manutd.com, Ferdinand was asked to name the best finisher he played alongside and he answered without hesitation. “Luther to me,” he said. “I think all the other forwards (who played with him) would agree with that.
“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the pitch and he’s a thoughtful finisher. His finishing is always calm and he’s good at instinctive things, but I have to choose Ruud. “He’s calm and the one I’ve worked with The most ruthless terminator. “
Ruud van Nistelrooy played 219 times for Manchester United in five years and scored an astonishing 150 goals. In 2006, he left the club to join Real Madrid.

Rooney overtook Sir Bobby Charlton at the top of the list shortly before leaving Manchester United in 2017. The former England star scored 253 goals in 559 games after joining United from boyhood club Everton in 2004.
The 37-year-old has since taken up a coaching role and was in charge of Major League Soccer side D.C. United until the weekend. He will return to England after being confirmed as Birmingham City’s new manager on Wednesday afternoon.
