The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Bulava ballistic missile was launched from the Emperor Alexander III nuclear submarine.

It was confirmed in the statement that the aforementioned launch test was the final stage of the experiments.

The Bulava, which is 12 meters long, has a range of about 8,000 kilometres.

The new Emperor Alexander III nuclear submarine, developed within the scope of the Borei project, was launched in December last year.

The test came after President Vladimir Putin canceled his country’s ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

The draft law on Russia’s withdrawal of its consent to the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, which was recently approved in the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament, last October, was submitted to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The statement published on the Kremlin information portal said that Putin approved the draft law. After Putin signed, Russia officially withdrew its approval of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

At the session held last October in the Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament, the draft law on canceling Russia’s approval of the agreement was put to a vote. While 412 representatives who attended the session voted “yes” on the draft law, no one voted against it or abstained from voting. In the vote held in the Senate, the Federation Council, the bill was accepted by 156 votes to zero. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, in a recent statement, that the United States was not included in the agreement at all, and that the balance would be equal to Russia’s decision to withdraw.
