Last week, Jeff Snyder report Directors Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are making a vampire movie.
Coogler’s latest project, produced by his own Proximity Media, is so secretive that executives had to trek to WME’s offices to read the script. Judging by the careful steps taken here, you’d swear this was actually Christopher Nolan’s next film.
Deadline is now Report Three studios are currently engaged in a bidding war for Coogler’s film: Warner Bros., Universal and Sony. They are “fighting for a deal that would allow Coogler to begin production this summer.”
The reason why streamers such as Netflix and Apple did not participate in the bidding war is that Coogler insisted that his film have an “established global theatrical chain.” Warner Bros. is said to currently have an advantage in winning the rights.
The project will be the next film written and directed by Coogler, the filmmaker behind “Tenet,” “Fruitvale Station,” “Black Panther” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” Man, Jordan starred in all four of those movies.
The untitled project is based on an original idea from Coogler and is described as a “genre” film with a “period setting.” The budget is reportedly around $90 million. Potential co-ownership of intellectual property was also discussed.
