Christian Cowan’s Paris Fashion Week debut was captured by a giant ball of fur.
The huge ball, covered in black fluff, was one of the highlights of his spring collection, unveiled late Thursday at the American Cathedral in Paris, but it appears to have taken on a life of its own.
Speaking backstage before the show, Cowan said he was “obsessed” with the look: one of three spherical dresses including a disco ball and a wedding dress, although shipping it was a nightmare.
“He didn’t go through any of the doors. We even made it to our temporary office, but the two images just didn’t fit in the building, so they had to be parked on site about seven days before the deadline because, fortunately, the space has huge doors.” – he said.
I feel sorry for the poor model who was assigned to wear this outfit. Making their way down the dimly lit runway, also covered in inky faux fur, they first encountered a small podium where singer Sam Smith was performing a cover of Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round” in honor of queer icon Pete Burns.
After Smith carefully redirected it, the creature—let’s call it “The Blob”—bounced off the wall of outstretched arms in the front row and finally collapsed in front of the altar. You can’t fix this.
You kind of suspect Cowan was enjoying the whole thing – the camp meter reading was off the charts – but it made it hard to concentrate on the clothes, not to mention the room was filled with artificial smoke and it was 11 p.m. at this point. Another seemingly endless day of Parisian shows was ending.
In some ways, it was the perfect setting for Cowan’s colorful evening looks, which ranged from an oversized silver-flecked tweed jacket, a long tweed jacket with a matching bra and short shorts, to a pink fur-trimmed bustier dress and a sweet “Romy” dress. . and Michelle.” All looks were worn with chunky platform boots with rows of silver buckles.
But Cowan, who dressed Lady Gaga and Lil Nas
“Paris has always been synonymous with true creativity and craftsmanship, and on the business side I want to show people the growth of our brand. You know, just a few years ago we were all party wear, and now we have a fully developed merchandising plan for amazing poplins, denim, crepes and silks, and I just think this is the place to do it. ,” He said.
I hope there is a receiver here.
