Back in the ’90s, The Sandman was one of ECW’s most popular performers. His feud with Tommy Dreamer helped gain fame for his promotion. The gimmick also served as inspiration for a certain foul-mouthed, beer-drinking Diamondback in WWE.
As one of the ECW originals, The Sandman’s name occasionally pops up on social media. Paul Heyman shot to fame when news of his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame took the internet by storm. Now it seems, Michael Jordan Relevant to countless mentions of Sandman on X (formerly Twitter).
A photo of Sandman high-fiving the basketball legend is making the rounds on the internet. For those who don’t know, this iconic interaction was caught on camera after the Chicago Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals.It was originally released to the world as part of ESPN last dance
2020 documentary series.The final episode of the series follows the Bulls celebrating an epic victory over the Jazz. Cameras captured Jordan and his teammates being greeted by dozens of fans upon arriving at the team hotel in Salt Lake City. While The Sandman’s appearance was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, it did find its place in the biggest crossover event between professional wrestling and basketball.
But does the man who makes a living attacking people with kendo sticks have a collection of any iconic exchanges?
As it turns out, he didn’t realize this until eagle-eyed fans spotted him in the final episode.
“I fucking forgot about it,” the former ECW World Champion said in a 2020 interview with ProWrestlingSheet. As he explained to the press, “Your headline should be: The Sandman Can’t Even Remember to High-Five Jordan.”
He continued, “I don’t even remember the part where Jordan walked off the fucking bus and high-fived him. I swear to God, I don’t remember. I didn’t tell anyone that story! I can’t find it. Someone told me this story, and I high-fived Jordan because I fucking forgot. I was with my daughter, and I was laying in bed. It was a quarter past eleven. I didn’t expect to see By myself. When I saw myself, I screamed and yelled. She’s still mad at me about it.
