Scarlet Witch’s future in the MCU looks bleak after a new update from Elizabeth Olsen.

Elizabeth Olsen has shared a new update that makes the Scarlet Witch’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe seem uncertain at the moment. Olsen joined the MCU as Wanda Maximoff in a post-credits scene of 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier before making her real debut in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Over the years, Wanda has become a major character in the MCU, with his lead role in Marvel’s first Disney+ series, WandaVision, launching the character’s popularity into the MCU’s top tier. After the Scarlet Witch appeared to be dead in Doctor Strange’s final scene in the Multiverse of Madness, speculation has centered around the character’s future in the MCU.

During an interview on the TODAY show, Olsen was asked about her future as the Scarlet Witch in the MCU and the actress gave a straight answer.

According to Olsen, the actress has no idea about the Scarlet Witch’s potential return to the MCU after her apparent death at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. When asked for more specific details about her situation than hers, Olsen revealed that she’s not under contract with Marvel Studios, so she’s unaware of any details about the Scarlet Witch’s return. “Al Roker: I have to ask you. Scarlet Witch. Will we see more?

Elizabeth Olsen: It’s a difficult question for me to answer because I feel like my words always get distorted every time I answer, but how…

Al Roker: Think of it as the “deception-free zone.”

Olsen: So my no-cheat zone is, “Yeah, I sure hope so.” I have no idea. When I say this, it’s not because I have a double answer. I say this because “Yes, I really hope so”, and I mean it literally.

Roker: Have you started filming?

Olsen: Absolutely not.

Roker: Have you read a script?

Olsen: Nope.

Craig Melvin: Was there a video call?

Olsen: There is no contract. Done.”

While Olsen isn’t currently signed to Marvel, the Scarlet Witch’s surge in popularity makes it unlikely that the actress is done with the role yet. Given the Scarlet Witch’s personal connection to certain MCU characters, two projects stand out as the prime candidates for Olsen’s next MCU appearance. The first of these is the Disney+ series Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness was the main antagonist of WandaVision, and the villain was trapped by the Scarlet Witch in Westview, still thinking she was the neighborly shrewish person Agatha used as a cover within Wanda’s reality sitcom .

Chances are Agatha is seeking revenge against Wanda when she wakes up from the spell she was placed under during Agatha: Coven of Chaos. With the series expected to star actor Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan, one of Wanda’s reincarnated sons, the series would be perfect for the return of the Scarlet Witch. Olsen may have a one-episode role in the series finale to address Agatha’s plan for revenge and further Wanda’s first contact with one of her children outside of the fictional Westview reality she created.

Another spiritual sequel to WandaVision, the upcoming Disney+ series Vision Quest, could be where the Scarlet Witch returns. The series will see the return of Paul Bettany as the White Vision, the MCU’s version of the superhero who was brought to life during WandaVision. Vision will try “to recover memory and humanity” in the series directed by Jac Schaeffer, creator of the couple series of the MCU. Given Wanda’s personal connection to Vision and the fact that the pair’s MCU series creator is heading up Vision Quest, the return of Olsen’s Scarlet Witch to the show could be possible.
