Schedule of International Critics’ Week unveiled • Asbury Movies

The program for the 38th International Critics’ Week, an independent and parallel section of the Venice Film Festival, has been announced and will run from 30 August to 9 September.

The official program for the 38th was made public this morning.^To edition International Critics’ Week, an independent and parallel section of the Venice International Film Festival, organized by the National Union of Italian Film Critics. As always, there will be a selection of the first seven films to spice up the section competition and three special out-of-competition events. The event will be held in parallel with the official program of the Exhibition from August 30 to September 9, 2023.

Among the seven competing films, British director Moin Hussain’s debut film stands out. heavenly peals, which centers on the story of a lonely man who works the night shift at a gas station and lives a life almost entirely devoid of human contact. When a man learns that his father, whose trail he has lost, is dead, he begins to reflect on the man he never truly knew; in particular, it is his father’s belief that he is not human that puts him in a crisis.

Another author worth mentioning is Taiwanese Lee Hong-Chi, who presents his debut Love is a gun: The plot centers on a former criminal who, after being released from prison, tries to live a quiet life away from trouble, content with his small job. However, his old boss, his mother in debt, and his friend Maozi knock on his door, bringing him back to his old life.

The Italian will also be present at the competition. About last year, directed by Beatriz Surano, Dunya Lavechchia and Morena Terranova, the action takes place in the suburbs of Turin: here we see Celeste, Georgia and Letizia, three women aged 20 to 27 who are guests in the world of the ballroom, a phenomenon born in New York. York in the Hispanic LGBTQIA+ community and African American. Here, three women have found a space where they can be masters of their bodies, away from judgment, prejudice and provocation.

Titles competing in the International Critics’ Week competition will compete for the IWonderfull Grand Prix, which is worth €5,000 in cash, and the Cinema Club Audience Award of €3,000. The selection committee for the event, headed by Delegate General Beatriz Fiorentino, consists of Enrico Azzano, Chiara Borroni, Ilaria Feole and Federico Pedroni.
