Scotland: drones deliver mail in Orkney (VIDEO)

IN Orkney Islands off the coast of Scotlandan innovative mail delivery service (also) using a drone has finally started working. There royal mailin collaboration with Skyportsactually launched Orkney I-Port projectthe first of its kind in the whole of the United Kingdom, for the distribution of letters and parcels between the various islands of the archipelago.

The service includes delivery of mail from Kirkwall’s delivery office to Stromness, from where drones will deliver it to Gramsey and Hoy. Once the postal workers arrive at their destination, they complete the delivery route. It is clear that the drones will use electric motors and therefore they will also be a way for Royal Mail to reiterate its commitment to reducing shipping-related emissions.

At the moment the service should last 3 months, but may be extended indefinitely due to the special geography of Orkney and the proximity of the islands. Skyports will serve inter-island flights from Drone Speedbird Aero DLV-2

As a result, this innovative island delivery service will significantly improve delivery time and quality to Gramsey and Hoy Islands, allowing residents of these remote areas to enjoy a more reliable and sustainable postal service.
