It became known that director Scott Derricone has left Doctor Strange 2 to avoid creating monsters, but at least he says he doesn’t have any bad feelings about Marvel.
The Playlist caught up with Derrickson, who spoke about leaving the sequel.
“All I can say is that what we said publicly is the absolute truth. We had real creative differences,” Derrickson explained.
Derrickson continued: “You know, the movie I wanted to make and the way I wanted to make it was different from the others—it just became more and more obvious that we were pulling against each other. I think that’s how you can make a really bad movie.”
He added: “When a producer or a studio and a director make different films, the end result is a monster, and, you know, that’s why I had to turn it down.”
So what will his version be about?
Derrickson told his version Doctor Strange 2 was intended to be “an extreme departure from the first film” and be “sort of a proper horror film.”
A few years ago at Comic-Con, insiders told me that Scott Derrickson was planning to use original Multiverse characters from the comics, such as the original Nick Fury from Marvel Comics.
No bad blood
The director says all is well as he is still friends with the people at Marvel and director Sam Raimi, who replaced him (there are now rumors that Raimi Avengers: Secret Wars).
“Yes, I was at the premiere. “I’m still friends with Kevin (Feige) and everything about me and Marvel is really cool,” he said. “I was invited to the premiere, and I went. And I’m friends with Sam (Raimi). I love Sam, so there’s no bad blood about it.”
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness it was a big mess
True according to Derrickson, known Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness it was a big mess, so Derrickson made the right decision by abandoning the film and not sacrificing his standards.
Elizabeth Olsen previously revealed that there were so many scripts that she stopped reading them all.
“It was like more than I thought. I mean, there were definitely times when… there was a point in making the film where I just stopped reading the drafts,” she said.
Olsen continued: “I thought, ‘Everything is going to change again.’ Just keep me updated with the information I need and you guys fill out the fields you need. But I’ll just stay in my lane. It’s been a wild ride.”
It was also confirmed that the script was rewritten because Benedict Cumberbatch and Strange are white guys, and it was said that Scarlet Witch was never intended to be a villain, and we can assume that Kevin Feige forced the use of America Chavez.
Derrickson became director Black phone starring Ethan Hawke, which became a big hit with a possible sequel, and he directed an episode in the new anthology series V/H/S/85.
