Scream actor Sam Carpenter discusses where the character could go next.

Melissa Barrera discusses where her character Sam Carpenter could go in a possible Scream 7. Introduced as the daughter of Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), an early Ghostface killer who died at the hands of Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) in the original film, Sam. She managed to survive several attacks in both Woodsboro and New York. knowing that his father is impressed with his story, as Sam’s story includes hallucinations and hints of a possible dark side. Going forward, Barrera’s character development will likely be a big part of the slasher franchise, especially after the events of Scream 6.

In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Barrera opened up about his role in the Scream movies, noting that it can be hard to figure out which direction Sam is going next. The star explained that she can be good and evil, adding that she would like to explore that duality in another film. Read Barrera’s statement about Sam Carpenter in Scream below:

“There are so many places[Sam]could go. That’s one of the reasons why, when I read the script for Scream 5, I was so interested in the character. There’s huge potential here with regards to his mental health, it’s just so unexpected.” . I think this darkness of hers makes her even more interesting to play and watch… She’s a hero but she’s also a little bit of a villain. It’s her contradiction that I find fascinating, and if we make another, So I’d love to see that. The writers have done a great job with him up to this point, so I’m sure they’ll know where to take him (in a way) that will be unexpected and interesting for fans.

In Scream 2022, Sam travels to Woodsboro after he learns that his sister Tara (Jenna Ortega) was stabbed by an assailant wearing a Ghostface mask. He told Tara how he found out about his biological father, discovering that he was thirteen and had read a diary of his mother’s. Sam also saw hallucinations of Billy Loomis, who told him his things, including his need to accept who he was. After she sees him in the mirror and sees the knife, she is finally able to kill Richie (JACK QUAID) as well.

While there is uncertainty about Sam, it seems she can embrace being the daughter of an assassin. Upon moving to New York City for Scream 6, Barrera’s character attended therapy where she revealed how she felt about killing someone. He kept seeing visions of Billy anyway and eventually, he took a closer look at his mask, suggesting that Sam is in fact good and evil in the Scream, as discussed by Barrera. Sam also dons the traditional Ghostface outfit when he kills the last villain in Scream 6.

Despite some uncertainties regarding Sam, she appears to be one of the main characters of the franchise. It’s interesting to think about where her overall story might end up and time will tell if she becomes a killer like her father. Given the huge success of the sixth episode, Scream 7 seems likely and viewers can expect to learn more about Barrera’s character.
