New location, new rules. The ghost face most ruthless ever sows death in New York in Scream VI (from today in Italian cinemas). The latest chapter in the horror franchise created by Wes Craven who, with his death in 2015, passed the baton to director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett authors of the blockbuster film released in 2022. In addition to Jenna Ortegafresh from the stratospheric success of the series Wednesdaythe film sees the return of Melissa Barrera, Courtney Cox And Hayden Panettiere who reprises his role of Kirby Reed from Scream 4. Big absent Neve Campbell who said “goodbye” to the slasher metacinema series for economic disputes, thus making this film the first in the franchise without Sidney Prescott, the “scream queen” par excellence.

The new Scream it will mark the first time of the saga outside the boundaries of Woodsboro. In Scream VIin fact, after having survived yet another massacre by Ghostface, the sisters Samantha (Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Ortega), together with the twins Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy Meeks (Jasmin Savoy Brown), move to New York to start a new life. 6. Scream 3, 2000
The set of Stab 3 – Return to Woodsboro it is the scene of yet another massacre by Ghostface who kills his victims following the script. Parker Posey’s green dress is the same one worn by Courteney Cox in the first chapter. All sets of Stab 3 they are replicas, as the original ones were scrapped after the landmark film concluded. For the first time, Kevin Williamson was unavailable to write, due to scheduling conflicts with Dawson’s Creek.
5. Scream, 2015-2019
A hooded killer roams a campus claiming victims, in the MTV series. For commercial reasons, a sort of post-op mask takes the place of the Ghostface one (based on Munch’s Scream). If the original 1996 film is inspired by the Gainesville Ripper, Danny Rolling, the TV remake takes its cue from the murder of Skylar Neese: the 16-year-old from West Virginia who, in 2012, was murdered by two of her peers.
4. Scream 4, 2011
Written by Kevin Williamson, it centers on the return of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) to Woodsboro, where he will find Linus and Gale, now married. But waiting for her there will also be the murderous rampage of Ghostface, who will target the students of the high school attended by his cousin Jill (Emma Roberts). New chapter, new rules to survive a slasher; if in the original trilogy these were dictated by Randy Meeks, now, the horror moves experts are Charlie Walker (Rory Culkin) and Robbie Mercer (Erik Knudsen). Courteney Cox and David Arquette, wife and husband also in reality since Scream (1996), were in the process of divorcing. Although there was some slight tension on the set, the two were said to have remained professional throughout filming. Craven’s last film before his death, it is the first to use a CGI-edged knife because the director wanted to avoid the use of folding, rubber, or cardboard knives.
3. Scream 2, 1997
With a movie (Stabbased on the book by journalist Gale Weathers, the hooded killer strikes again. Sidney Prescott, who survived the carnage two years earlier, fears she’s in danger again and that someone else psychopath is wearing the Ghostface mask. Neve Campbell, also star of Party of Fiveran the series on Mondays and Tuesdays, during the day, and spent Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the set of Scream 2. On Sundays, she would work all night until 6 in the morning, come home to wash off the fake blood and immediately hit the set of the Fox teen drama, all without sleeping. Back when Jada Pinkett Smith was just Jada Pinkett, she had the opening cameo, and after filming, she gave Wes Craven a set of steak knives for Christmas.
2. Scream 5, 2022
​What is a requel? Mindy Meeks, nephew of the legendary Randy (Jamie Kennedy), explains it to Tara (Jenna Ortega) and her older sister Sam (Melissa Barrera), who ended up in the crosshairs of Ghostface who returns to strike in the unfortunate town of Woodsboro. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, great fans of the saga even before being hired, expertly connect to the original film by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson. They wanted to collaborate with Samara Weaving again, after directing her in Till death do Us part (2019), but she was not available. She will return to acting for the director duo in the new one Scream 6.
1. Scream, 1996
Teen Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) life is turned upside down when a series of brutal murders by a masked killer terrorizes the small town of Woodsboro. The iconic Ghostface mask was accidentally found by some crew members in a scout camp. Drew Barrymore who was chosen for the role of the protagonist refused preferring Casey Becker; he explained to Wes Craven that if his character had been killed off at the beginning of the film, audiences could have expected any outcome. It was one of the biggest twists in the history of cinema, directly, inspired by Psycho by Hitchcock.
