Summer is coming to an end, but while there’s still at least one month of sunshine and warmth, film and TV companies are doing their best to bring you back to the latest and most exciting films and shows. If that’s the case, August 2023 will see some really exciting movies hitting theaters, as well as some promising shows on streamers, so to get an idea of what’s in store for us, let’s dive into the latest edition of Screen Time.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem – August 2
The animation renaissance is in full swing. As Spider-Verse attempts to redefine what an animated film can be, we’ve also seen production companies get creative with their styles, and the latest film to buy this will be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. This film features an incredibly built cast and seems to tell the story of a younger version of the Turtle Brothers as they are tasked with saving New York City from a horde of mutant monsters.

Mag 2: The Trench – August 4
Jason Statham is back and will try to dive underwater to face other monster sharks. In this Meg sequel, known simply as Meg 2: The Trench, humanity battles a giant group of sharks and other sea creatures, all following a research effort in the Mariana Trench that has gone horribly wrong. Needless to say, if you enjoy watching Statham fight giant whites, this movie will try to convey that and then some more.

Haunted Mansion – August 11
It looks a bit like a unicorn these days, but yes, The Haunted Mansion is Disney’s new cinematic intellectual property. This movie is a widescreen adaptation of the famous theme park attraction and features an impressive cast including Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Winona Ryder, Danny DeVito, Lakeith Stanfield and more, all portraying Ghostbusters. and ghouls battling for control of a spooky manor.
The last voyage of the Demeter is August 11.
Have you ever wondered how Dracula managed to get from the Carpathians to London? Demeter’s Last Voyage is a horror film that attempts to adapt a single chapter of Bram Stoker’s famous novel as it tells the horrifying story of what the crew of the schooner Demeter encountered during their journey with a certain vampire who died on board. .
Heart of Stone (Netflix) – August 11
In Netflix’s Big Movie of the Month, Gal Gadot plays a member of a shady intelligence agency tasked with stopping a hacker from stealing a deadly and valuable weapon. Heart of Stone is a big-budget action movie that stars Jamie Dornan and Matthias Schweighofer alongside the Wonder Woman star.
Gran Turismo – August 11
Sony continues its efforts to bring its core franchises to the big screen this month as Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo is being filmed. In this story, a young sim racer advances to the big leagues, all with the help of his coach, played by David Harbour. This film, starring Orlando Bloom, is about the transition from player to driver.
Blue Beetle – August 18
DC’s woes notwithstanding, this August brings us yet another adaptation of this comic book universe. Blue Beetle will show what happens when an alien relic chooses a teenager as its owner, granting him access to powerful armor. With Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña leading the cast, this film should be one of the last films in the DC Extended Universe before paving the way for the DC Universe created by James Gunn.
Tramps – August 18
Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, Sofia Vergara, Isla Fisher, and a slew of other famous stars voice a host of vengeful stray dogs. Need to add more? Tramps is a film that follows a pack of dogs seeking revenge on an abusive owner who has decided to abandon his loving canine companion.
Ahsoka (Disney+) – August 23
One of two series we cover in this issue of Screen Time. Disney+’s Ahsoka sees fans return to the Galaxy Far, Far Away for an adventure starring Rosario Dawson as famed former Jedi Knight and Padawan Anakin Skywalker as she seeks to protect those in danger after the fall of the Empire while revealing a nefarious new conspiracy that intends to pave the way for a new galactic order.
One Piece (Netflix) – August 31
While everything seems to be filmed these days, the incredibly famous and long-running One Piece anime has just joined the fray. The first season of the show will follow the journey of Monkey D. Luffy, Nami, Zoro and the rest of the pirate crew as they explore the fantasy world of endless oceans in hopes of finding the greatest treasure known as The Pirate. King.
