Movieguide® previously reported on SELENA + CHEF:
SELENA + CHEF is a new cooking series from singer and actress Selena Gomez, filmed for HBO Max during quarantine. In the 10-episode series, Gomez receives virtual cooking lessons from professional chefs. As an aspiring chef, Gomez learns new recipes and gets useful tips for cooking in the kitchen. Filmed in her personal kitchen, viewers have the opportunity to learn useful cooking tips and laugh at Gomez’s misfortunes. While the series is often funny and entertaining, it does come with some caveats…
SELENA + CHEF has some positive aspects. The series celebrates friendship, family and service. Gomez has lupus and often has difficulty performing tasks that require heavy lifting. Her friends and family are often nearby to help and enjoy cooking. They also enjoy trying food together. Chefs often have family members who help or stop by to say hello. In this adorable moment, Gomez entertains the chef’s teenage daughter by FaceTiming with Taylor Swift. The series also promotes learning and giving back as Gomez learns to cook during quarantine while also donating to various charities.
