Selena Gomez only wears so many coats to murders in a building for a reason and I can understand it

Through Only murders in the building three seasons, Selena Gomez wearing some truly iconic coats. From the iconic yellow pilot’s jacket to the stunning long coats featured in OMITB Season 3, there are countless things you can take fashion inspiration from, especially now that fall is here. However, it turns out that there is a very specific reason why the singer/actress wears so many interesting outerwear, and it’s very interesting.

Bye Only murders in the building this is a very fashionable show, generally speaking, Selena Gomez and Mabel fashion is a real highlight, especially when it comes to her sweaters and coats. I had the opportunity to speak with Dana Covarrubias, the Emmy-nominated costume designer for the hysterical detective, in OMITB pop-up event in New York. She told all about the leading actress’s outerwear and told me why she puts so many coats on her. The answer is quite simple, she said:

She gets cold very easily. People don’t realize that we’re on set 12 hours a day. And actors should not only look good, but also feel comfortable. And you don’t want them to be unhappy. You want them to enjoy what they do. So we think a lot about comfort, you know, especially with Steve (Martin) and Marty (Martin Short), you know, I always make sure that their shoes are comfortable and that they can move in their suits. For Selena, I would say that I always worry that she might be cold. We always make sure she has enough layers and that her coats are warm.

Cozy and comfortable clothes are the key to Mabel’s costumes and Gomez’s comfort on the set. Bye Mabel Maura showed off her gorgeous wedding dress As Covarrubias explained, in Season 3 Episode 8, her favorites are usually an oversized sweater, an interesting outerwear, a pair of boots, and a fun skirt or pair of pants. While it’s a very fashionable aesthetic, it’s also practical and warm, perfect for long days on set.

For someone who has only ever lived in places with four seasons, the need for a coat is a constant, and when it’s cute, it’s a big plus. As Covarrubias told me, Selena Gomez’s costumes usually fit both of those criteria, and I really like that about her.

I’m a big fan of how thoughtful Covarrubias is when it comes to the actors and their needs. According to her, Gomez always wears funny coats because she gets cold easily. Meanwhile, with Steve Martin and Martin Short, she always makes sure they have comfortable shoes. The show moves quickly and the actors need to keep up. I think suits that are functional and fashionable really help.
