Based on a play, it belongs to the finest tradition of American interior films to which they belong. Everything except the opening and closing credits takes place in an apartment, and this film owes it all to the outstanding performances of four main characters: a librarian and a writer who are nothing more than a beginner (Jodie Foster
), merchant of household goods (John S. Reilly), financial analyst (Kate Winslet) and lawyer (Christopher Waltz, probably the top 4, but it’s really hard to decide). Multiple levels of reading: a clash of generations (children who only appear at the beginning and at the end), social classes, a modern society mired in violence under the surface layer of civilization. In the iconic scene of Winslet vomiting (her own hypocrisy?) and unleashing verbal and physical violence (the last one to resist), we define the point of no return for a civilization now in decline.Other anniversaries
