Andre Agassi’s former coach Brad Gilbert served as a consultant on the movie “Contender.” I coached Zendaya for three months to help her prepare to become a tennis player.

Gilbert had an impressive career, winning 20 singles titles. After retiring from professional tennis, he transitioned into coaching, working with players such as Andy Murray, Andy Roddick and Kei Nishikori. Under his guidance, Andre Agassi won six Grand Slam titles.

during an interview type“Contenders” director Luca Guadagnino expressed his admiration for the film’s cast. I applaud their dedication to honing their tennis skills for this film, working tirelessly alongside Brad Gilbert. Guadagnino highlighted the training Zendaya, O’Connor and Feaster put in to master the intricate nuances of the sport.

“They spent about three months working very hard,” Guadagnino said of the three actors. “Everyone — technically, athletically.”

Guadagnino also praised the film’s leading lady, praising her stellar performance and stressing that her tennis skills were so impressive that they almost didn’t need to hire a stunt double for her.

“She’s amazing, I mean, wow. We edited the movie and we actually barely used any of her stunt doubles. She’s amazing.” I’ve added.
