Holger Ruhn and Serena Williams’ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou recently got honest about their chances against the Danes.
Patrick Mouratoglou is a French tennis coach best known for his partnership with Serena Williams. He served as the coach of Team USA for a full decade from 2012 until a few months before his retirement in 2022. He also coached the likes of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Grigor Dimitrov and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The coach recently shared a video showing his performance on clay. In this article I demonstrate how to switch between defense and offense in tennis. Interestingly, each clip shows Mouratoglou winning a specific rally, much to the delight of tennis fans.
One fan jokingly asked if he could do the same to his former mentee Holger Rune. The Frenchman hilariously admitted that he could not win a single match against the former world number four.
“Why do you never lose in videos? Please try to beat Holger Rune.. your former student.. a serious match,” this fan commented.
“I even had zero chance of scoring!” Patrick Mouratoglou admitted this humorously.
Mouratoglou, currently Simona Halep’s coach, also worked with Holger Rune during the Romanian’s doping suspension. Rooney recently ended his partnership with the Frenchman.
In addition to his coaching duties, Patrick Mouratoglou, who owns a youth academy in France, is also active on social media. He has amassed a staggering 1 million followers on Instagram, where he shares tennis-related insights and provides training tips.
Holger Rune and Patrick Mouratoglou split after 2023 US Open
Holger Rune, with Lars Christensen as head coach, added Patrick Mouratoglou to his squad in October 2022, Just days before Simona Halep announced her temporary suspension.
The partnership paid dividends from the start, with Rooney winning his second tour-level title just days later at the 2022 Stockholm Open. Within a month, Danes starred in two more finales. He won the runner-up trophy at the Swiss Indoors in Basel and defeated Novak Djokovic in the Paris Masters final to win his biggest title to date.
The Dane had a fantastic clay court season in 2023 under Mouratoglou. He has twice competed in the Monte Carlo and Rome Masters 1000 finals. He also successfully defended his title at the BMW Open in Munich and repeated his quarterfinal feat at the French Open.
Holger Rune also continued his impressive form at Wimbledon 2023, reaching the quarter-finals for the first time. He subsequently reached a career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world in August.
However, after a surprise first-round exit at the US Open, the 20-year-old’s mother hinted at friction within the team. She expressed concern about the ego conflict between coaches Christensen and Mouratoglou.
In the following days, Rooney and Mouratoglou officially announced their separation.
“Unfortunately, all stories must end. I am very happy to be with you and I will always be your supporter. The whole Mouratoglou academy is behind you. Good luck to you, my friend ,” the Frenchman said of the split on Instagram.
Afterwards, Rooney lost in the second round of the China Open. Now, he will make his debut at the 2023 Shanghai Masters, with Lars Christensen serving as his sole coach.
