We are in a golden age of visibility and success for women’s sports.
Ratings for women’s college basketball, the WNBA, women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and many other sports continue to rise. It’s hard for critics to argue that no one wants to see female athletes at the top of their game.
Of course, that doesn’t stop them from trying to become a troll.
Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian made no mention of Serena Williams when discussing the ratings for the U.S. Open women’s tournament on X (formerly Twitter) this week husband.
“The free market speaks (again). Invest in women’s sports,” said Ohanian, who owns the NWSL’s Angels Soccer Club. “Imagine a world where men don’t feel threatened by the success of women’s sports. This is not a zero-sum game, folks.”
Facts > Feelings
US ratings @USOpen ending:
Coco Gauff vs. Aryna Sabalenka: 3.422 million
Novak Djokovic vs. Daniil Medvedev: 2.321 million
The free market speaks (again).
Invest in women’s sports. @weareangelcity This is just the beginning for me…—Alexis Ohanian

It was pointed out that the men’s final was against the NFL, the women’s was against an American (Coco Gauff), but the men’s was not (despite the all-time great Novak Djokovic strange).
The numbers don’t lie, but that may not stop internet trolls from trying to claim victory. Still, it’s hard to argue that women’s sports are getting more attention than ever.
