Serena Williams joins 40 stars to grace British Vogue’s ‘Legends’ cover

She is the only sports celebrity on the special edition cover.

Under outgoing British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, 40 famous women appeared on the cover of its final issue. Six years later, Ghana-born Enniful resigned as editor. He will serve as a consultant at Conde Nast, the parent publication of Vogue. During her six-year tenure, Enninful worked with Serena Williams, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Miley Cyrus, Jane Fonda, Dua Lipa and Kate Pop icons such as Moss have dated Hollywood stars.

Enninful also bucked the trend by putting Jane Fonda on the cover of its 2019 Women Over 50 issue. Dame Judi Dench appeared on the cover of the June 2020 issue of Vogue. At the age of 85, she was the oldest person to appear on the cover of Vogue.

The 40 legendary women who appeared on the cover of the March 2024 issue of British Vogue gathered in New York from London, Paris, Milan, Los Angeles and other places to witness this historic special issue.

Superstars taking part in the “farewell shoot” also include Oprah Winfrey, Victoria Beckham, Gigi Hadid and Salma Hayek. British stars such as Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne, Gemma Chan, Jodie Comer and Rina Sawayama All part of a diverse lineup.

Serena Williams is the only one of forty female athletes to grace the cover of an upcoming issue of Vogue. Serena, along with sister Venus Williams, created a huge attraction for the crowd during the tournament, much like the “Big Three” on the men’s tour. Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are the three biggest stars in tennis and have dominated the sport for two decades , causing a stir whenever they appear.

Serena Williams won 23 Grand Slams during her illustrious singles career, setting an Open era record. Margaret Court’s 24 major wins are the most of any player, with 13 of those 24 victories coming before the Open Era. She exits the competition as the only player to achieve a “Career Golden Slam” in singles and doubles.

Williams will retire after the 2022 U.S. Open, her first major since 1999, and will be inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2024.

The former world number one recently appeared at a pre-Grammy Awards party to introduce American rock band Green Day and received a personal invitation from Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. The star-studded event was also attended by WTA co-founder Billie Jean King, who congratulated Taylor Swift on winning Album of the Year. Swift has won the award four times in total, including for her latest studio album, “Midnights.”
