Serena Williams pays huge praise to Jannik Sinner as they meet at Miami Open

Tennis icon Serena Williams meets Jannik Sinner at Miami Open 2024 after Italian’s stunning semi-final victory over Daniil Medvedev Medvedev), both received great praise.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion praised Sinner’s forehand and said she wished she had the chance to hit it, while describing the 22-year-old as “unbelievable”.

Sinner advanced to the ATP Masters 1000 final for the third time after defeating world No. 4 Medvedev 6-1, 6-2 in the semi-finals in Miami on Friday.

The world No. 3, who finished runner-up in Miami in 2021 and 2023, is looking for a second Masters 1000 title at last year’s Canadian Open.

The Australian Open champion will face 32-year-old Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the Miami Open final on Sunday after the 32-year-old defeated him in three sets in the semi-finals Alexander Zverev.

Williams, who won a record eight titles at the Miami Open during his remarkable career, was in attendance at both men’s semifinals at Hard Rock Stadium on Friday.

Sinner met with Williams after his win and the former world number one was clearly impressed with his performance and heaped praise on him.

“I wish I could do that with my forehand. Not seriously, the racquet head, the power. I was like, ‘Wow.’ “Day and night, you’re incredible,” the 42-year-old American said.

After his fifth consecutive victory over Medvedev, Sinner was asked about how he turned around after falling 6-0 down against the Russian.

“It will be interesting now to see what happens in the future and what he changes, I have to be very clear about my own thoughts,” explained the Italian.

“But for sure he was a player that made me a better player because, you know, I had to do it, for example in Beijing I started serving and volleying. And then in Vienna I tried serving and volleying, But it doesn’t work anymore.

“So I have to be very careful with some things here, but, you know, these types of players, they make you a better player. Sometimes it’s not the head-to-head that matters, it’s how you understand from the loss and try to study.

“That’s what I’ve been trying to do over the last few years, not just against him but against other opponents, and it’s made me, yeah, become a better player.”
