Serena Williams revealed on Wednesday (October 11) that she will attend the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards judging panel in New York on November 8.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner has been focusing on his independent clothing brand “S by Serena” since retiring in 2022. She even stepped out on the red carpet at the Met Gala earlier this year, showing off her glamor in a beautiful Gucci gown. Baby bump.
Serena Williams was also popular for her tennis attire during her playing days. In this context, it makes sense that the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awarded her the Fashion Icon Award.
The 42-year-old revealed the news to her fans on her Instagram Story earlier on Wednesday. In the photo, she can be seen rocking her hourglass figure in a white dress.
“Serena Williams will receive the Style Icon Award at the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards,” her story’s caption read.
Regardless, Serena Williams is the first athlete in the history of the event to be awarded the title of Fashion Icon. She was admittedly ecstatic to receive the honor via a statement released by Vogue magazine.
“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve used fashion as a way to express myself. I’ve had fun learning my style and letting it change as my life progresses, but I’ve always stayed true to one thing: fashion is for everyoneno matter your size, race or income,” she said in a statement.
“I am extremely honored to receive the prestigious Fashion Icon Award from the CFDA, an organization I have long admired for its work, and to join the list of fashion icons I have always respected,” she added.
Meanwhile, Serena Williams has been living a good life outside of the tennis world. At the time of her retirement, the American legend asserted that she was looking forward to “stepping away from tennis and moving on to other things that are important to her.”
Since then, the 42-year-old has taken up new hobbies, such as fashion and vlogging. She also manages her own independent clothing line, S by Serena. In August this year, she also gave birth to her second daughter, Adira.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner retired last year at the U.S. Open. The last match of her career was against Australian player Ajla Tomljanovic, who defeated 7-5, 6-7(4), Beat her 6-1.
