wattAfter retiring last August, she has more free time, Serena Williams quickly found other things to devote herself to.
The tennis star is set to tell fans about her life on the tennis court and beyond in book form, with support from Random House.
Yes, plural. The first book will serve as an “intimate memoir,” giving a glimpse into her childhood in Compton, California, which led her and her sister to a legendary tennis career that began when she was 14 career. This continued throughout her career as a tennis star until she decided to “retire” from the sport in the summer of 2022.
The first book is not just about tennis; It also touches on some personal aspects, like her relationship with Reddit co-founder and tech entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian and their daughters, Olympia and Adira.
“For so long, I was only focused on winning and I never sat down to look back and reflect on my life and career. Over the past year, I’ve really enjoyed spending time with my growing family Celebrate my achievements and explore my other passions.” Serena Williams said in a press release. “I am in a more perfect place to take on such a personal and intimate project, and there is no one I would rather work with than the team at Random House.”
The second book moves away from the focus on sports and family and takes a different approach to telling the story of businesswoman Serena. In 2014, she founded her own equity firm, Serena Ventures, which has raised more than $110 million while focusing on funding minority and female founders to make success in the business world more inclusive.
So in this second book, Williams will focus on the “rules of life” she developed during her own time as a philanthropist and advocate for gender equality and blackness.
This isn’t Williams’ first book since co-writing Venus and Serena: Serving from the Hips: 10 Rules for Living, Loving, and Winning in 2005.
Release dates for the books have not yet been announced.
