Serena Williams sparkled in a black Thom Browne gown on the red carpet at the 2023 CFDA Awards in New York City on Monday. Covered in black sequins, the dress featured a sweetheart neckline, pleats around the skirt and a long train.
The voluminous puff sleeves were made from shiny black fabric with dangling crystals, adding a dramatic touch to her look.
Williams paired the gown with a diamond flower necklace and diamond and pearl drop earrings, both from David Yurman, and her hair was braided low at the back and wrapped with red, white and blue ribbons.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner once again made history by becoming the first athlete to receive the “Fashion Icon” honor at the CFDA Awards. On the red carpet, she said her 6-year-old daughter Olympia also enjoys dressing up.
Not only does William consistently look great on and off the court, in 2018 he launched S by Serena, a collection of stylish and comfortable women’s dresses, jumpsuits and activewear, as well as unisex and youth pieces. She has also collaborated with Nike and HSN over the years.
Williams retires in September 2022. In August this year, she and her husband welcomed their second child.
Since 1980, the Council of Fashion Designers of America has been recognizing top talent in fashion design through the CFDA Awards. This year’s ceremony, hosted by Amazon Fashion, took place at the Museum of Natural History and was hosted by actress Anne Hathaway.
