At Monday’s ceremony, Williams received the Style Icon Award in recognition of her style on and off the tennis court.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I was different, so I explored fashion and style as a way to differentiate myself,” Williams told the audience while accepting the award.

“For me, in many ways, the tennis court became my runway and the U.S. Open was my own New York Fashion Week.”
