#Artistas| Singer Shakira could face trial in Spain for alleged tax fraud. A judge considered that “there is sufficient evidence” for the Colombian to be questioned for allegedly evading the payment of 14.5 million euros in taxes.
The decision comes after three years of investigation. If the interpreter is convicted, she would go to jail.
According to the newspaper El País of Spain, the togado points out in his report that:
‘Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll would have stopped paying taxes in Spain during the years 2012, 2013 and 2014, despite having an obligation to do so because she has her tax residence here’.
In her defense, the artist has tried to dismantle the accusation, saying that she had a certificate of permanent residence in the Bahamas, and that her presence in Spain until 2015 did not exceed the deadline that obliges her to pay taxes, said document is not recognized by the Inspectors Spanish for tax residency purposes.
The barranquillera also maintains through its defense that before 2015 it only visited sporadically Barcelona because of their relationship with the Spanish footballer, Gerard Pique. It should be remembered that, Shakira and the athlete started dating in 2011, then had have two children, born in 2013 and 2015.
