Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry have all tried and failed to repeat Michael Jordan’s last NBA feat

Many NBA players have tried to be “like Mike,” but few have actually achieved it.

Many of Jordan’s records still stand today, including a difficult scoring feat that not even the likes of Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, Kevin Durant or Stephen Curry can replicate.

“His Airness” was the last player to win an NBA championship while averaging over 30 points per game in the regular season – he did it in 1995/96 as part of the Chicago Bulls dynasty. Both scored 30.4 points.

Even more impressive is that Jordan did this three other times in his career, namely in the 1990-91 season (averaging 31.5 points per game), 1991-92 season (averaging 30.1 points per game) and 1992-93. season (32.6 points per game).

Several superstars have come close to Jordan’s feat over the years, but none have quite accomplished it.

Shaquille O’Neal came closest, averaging 29.7 points per game in the 1999-00 regular season before the Lakers won the championship that year.

Many consider LeBron to be Jordan’s closest competitor in the “GOAT” debate, but he doesn’t do that either.

His highest scoring average in the regular season during the year he won the championship was in 2012, when he averaged 27.1 points per game.

However, he averaged more than 30 points per game in 2007 and 2022, but the Cavaliers and Lakers he led failed to win the championship.

Curry is another guy who tried and failed to emulate Jordan’s 30+ point/win-win season.

His best performance came during the Warriors’ championship run in 2022, when he averaged 25.5 points per game in the regular season.

That being said, he would have tied Jordan’s 2016 record had the Golden State Warriors not taken a 3-1 lead over the Cavaliers in the Finals.

Curry averaged 30.1 points in the 73-9 regular season win.

Additionally, Durant failed to achieve the feat in his two championship seasons with the Warriors.

Durant averaged 25.1 points per game in 2017 and 26.4 points per game in 2018.

However, Jordan is not the only player in NBA history to score more than 30 points in a championship-winning regular season.

The great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar first did it in the 1970-1971 season, when he averaged 31.7 points per game and helped the Milwaukee Bucks win.

Rick Barry of the Golden State Warriors did the same in 1974-1975, averaging 30.6 points per game.

As things stand, three current players could equal Jordan’s feat this season.

Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic is currently the NBA’s leading scorer with 34.4 points per game, Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.2 points per game, and Bucks icon Giannis Antetokounmpo averages 30.6 points per game.

Only one of them can do that, but if they keep their scoring average above 30 for the rest of the season and win the title in June, they’ll become the first to do it since MJ in 1996 A feat for a player.
