Shazam! Fury of the Gods, is Gal Gadot's cameo a deepfake? The director reveals the mystery, the anger of the fans

Fan concerns that the Gal Gadot cameos in Shazam! Fury of the Gods was a deepfakes have prompted director David F. Sandberg to clarify by raising the complaints of some users.

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman appears in a climactic scene of the film, which we are not anticipating to avoid spoilers for those who have not yet seen it, but the way the scene was shot has led some viewers to suspect the presence of some trick.

To confirm his presence in the sequel in the role of a “false Wonder Woman” was the actress and model Taylor Cahill, who published a photo of her from the set wearing the Wonder Woman costume:

“The secret is now out! I am so thankful for this amazing opportunity to be the stunt double for Wonder Woman aka Fake Wonder Woman! I would like to thank Gal Gadot, Zachary Levi, the entire cast and crew, and CLICK Models who allowed this experience so amazing. Now stop reading and go see Shazam! Fury of the Gods”.

Upon learning that Gal Gadot was partially replaced by a stunt double because she was busy on the set of Murder on the Nile, fans went wild on social media complaining about the deception and the choice to superimpose Gal Gadot’s face on Taylor Cahill’s body with a deepfake technology.

Shazam 2, the director does not regret the absence of Dwayne Johnson: “I don’t think it would have been interesting”

At this point, director David F. Sandberg felt obliged to clarify the issue of the deepfake by responding to complaints from fans on Twitter.

“We shot the scene with Taylor to figure out what cover we’d need to get with Gal since she couldn’t get to Atlanta. It’s also Taylor’s body with the wizard’s head on it. There’s absolutely no deepfake going on. When see Gal, it’s her 100%”.

The director continued the explanation in a separate tweet, making a comparison with Superman’s cameo in the first Shazam!:

“That’s the approach we took in Shazam! for Superman. Shoot with a stunt double first, then get the required coverage with Cavill. Only the second half never happened in Shazam!”.
