It was easy for Anne Hathaway to connect with the character of Patricia in She Came to Me because she immediately understood the need for perfectionism.
It’s not uncommon for actors and actresses to find one or more common ground with the characters they play. This also happened with Ann Hataway For She came to medirector’s drama Rebecca Miller in which she plays a woman obsessed with perfection only because she is unable to put her personal life in order. It was easy for Anne Hathaway to understand her character. Patriciabecause he, in turn, was struggling with his need for perfectionism.
The dramatic romantic comedy She Came to Me is set in… NY and tells the story of a composer who lost his calling. Stephen Louddam (Peter Dinklage) is uninspired, creatively stagnant and has several weeks to complete the work assigned to him. His wife and former therapist suggests he get some fresh air, a change of scenery so he can find inspiration again, and that’s exactly what happens, albeit in a rather bizarre way. Stephen spends a night of passion on a tugboat in port in search of strong emotions: his name is Katrina (Marisa Tomei). This close encounter under the sheets will light a light bulb in Steven’s brain and he will be able to meet the deadline. But the problems in his marriage had just begun. In She Came to Me, Hathaway plays Patricia, a woman trying to protect herself from the disappointment of a marriage that seems planned on paper, constantly orchestrated, like her obsession with perfection. Anne Hathaway also pursued the idea for a while, it was said Diversity
:I think maybe earlier in my life I believed in perfectionism a little more. Patricia thinks that if she can do this right, she will protect the people she loves from bad things happening to them.
The actress said that she had long discussions with the director and screenwriter to understand how best to convey such a complex character as Patricia. on the verge of mental collapse:
I think it’s really tempting when you play someone more overblown to push the boundaries, but we talked about how Patricia needed to feel real and how we needed to ground her and how she just needed to make it, to feel yourself believable. My character has a lot of problems, a nervous breakdown, and so I knew I wanted to be up to the task. She had to have a nervous breakdown because otherwise she would have exploded physically.
