In 2017 he arrived at the cinema bow tie, remake of the 1973 film starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. The story follows Henri Charrière’s attempts to escape from his imprisonment after an unjust life sentence. The role, however, subjected Charlie Hunnam to a great physical effort.
The actor he had recently finished filming Lost Civilization
when he was called to the set of Papillon. The same technique was also adopted by Joaquin Phoenix for Joker and by Natalie Portman who lost 10 kilos to play the lead dancer of The Black Swan by Darren Aronofsky. According to many the technique of slimming and fattening (of which the greatest master in the history of cinema was Robert DeNiro) is a way to help the interpreter identify with the character.
