case. The epidemiological team of the Regional Health Ministry traveled to the Alto Bilingwe area in the Santa Catalina district of the Ngabe-Bugle region following reports of the deaths of two minors due to vomiting, diarrhea and fever.

Dr. Juan Carlos Montezuma, medical director of the regional health department, said an epidemiological team, doctors, nurses, environmental health personnel, nursing technicians and health promotion personnel are being transferred to the region with supplies, medicines and vaccines to intervene in communities.

“Weather conditions and geography are unfavorable and the site is currently not reachable due to the flooding of the river, but health personnel are expected to be on the scene tomorrow,” Dr Montezuma said.

In the Alto Bilingüe neighbourhood, at least two infants with symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and fever, most likely gastroenteritis, died, the doctor added.

The report was submitted by Germán Virola, representative of the town of Alto Bilingüe, who informed the health authorities that cases had been registered in his community and in other surrounding areas.
