Since Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney became manager, only one team has been worse than Birmingham City

Tom Brady had Wayne Rooney’s number on speed dial just weeks before the Three Lions legend was appointed Birmingham manager.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion joined the St. Andrew’s University Board of Trustees in an advisory capacity in early August after becoming a minority shareholder.

So last month a British icon joined an American icon when Brady convinced Rooney that he should return to Blighty once his contract with MLS club D.C. United ended and make Birmingham a bigger.

For new owner Shelby Companies, it all makes perfect sense. Shelby Companies, a subsidiary of US-based Knighthead Capital, took over in July.

Rooney and Brady will set out manager Tom Wagner and chief executive Gary Cook’s vision for the club – which could see Broome perform in the Premier League and perhaps even surpass neighbors Aston Villa.
