What Swarm is about
There new Swarm series (Swarm is the original title) is created by Janine Nabers and Donald Glover and is a psychological thriller with horror and satirical tints. The series and the cast’s performance have been lauded by critics.
The story is set between 2016 and 2018 and has young Dre as its protagonist, a fan obsessed with the biggest pop star aroundNi’Jah – a fictional character who seems to be inspired, at least in aesthetics and style, a Beyoncé. Dre manages the pop star’s fan base, a group called precisely Swarm or Swarm. This too can be read as a second reference to Beyoncé, according to some: the pop star’s fan base is in fact called BeyHive, where “hive” means beehive. Among other things, the series opens with a warning that claims that any resemblance to people alive or dead and to real events “is intentional”.
Anyway, Dre’s obsession with singer Ni’Jah continues to grow and will be able to make an unexpected journey across the country, as well as to explore, inside and outside of himself, decidedly dark and disturbing places.
The cast of Swarm
Dominique Fishback (already seen in Judas and The Black Messiah) plays the protagonist, Dre; she is also a producer of the series. In the cast of Swarm then there are Chloe Bailey (Grown-ish), Damson Idris (Snowfall), Rickey Thompson, Paris Jackson, Rory Culkin, Kiersey Clemons and Byron Bowers. Janine Nabers is the showrunner, while Stephen Glover, Fam Udeorji, Steven Prinz and Michael Schaefer are executive producers.
The role of Billie Eilish in Swarm
Billie Eilish in the series she plays a secondary role: that of Eva, the leader of a sort of sect dedicated to female empowerment who for some time takes Dre under her wing. She specifically appears in the fourth episodeoriginally titled Running Scared.
