Zendaya in the sights of some fans: the actress has been accused of xenophobia for Tom Holland’s London dialect jokes.
In the last hours Zendaya has come under fire from some users on social media for comments regarding the British accent of Tom Hollandher current boyfriend and interpreter of Peter Parker alias Spider-Man in the’Universe Marvel Cinematic.
Indeed, in an interview with The Sun, the actress and model spoke about her relationship with Holland, admitting that she didn’t fully understand the use of the accent cockney, or a London dialect spoken by the actor:
“I love the English accent, but no matter how hard Tom tries to explain it to me, I’ll never understand rhyming slang. I get the point – but what does apples and pears have to do with stairs? It’s cute when he says all these different phrases to me… but I really don’t get it!“
Despite the total absence of malice in these statements (relating to the slang of Londoners and some idioms invented in this accent to speak in code), numerous users lashed out against Zendaya on social media, defining her comments “xenophobes” And disrespectful not only of Tom Holland but also of the English language. Below you can find
This is so xenophobic, I feel bad for Tom. Not sure why she would even admit this weirdo stuff

*literally* not understanding casual phrases/banter of a different country does not equate to being xenophobic. this is such a reach 🫣
