The manufacturer Sony responded to community requests and went on to allow the cameras of the company to be used as a webcam on your computer. The move is possible thanks to a new program launched by the company, the Imaging Edge Webcam, and is welcome in a period of social isolation in which many people go through classes, work, or casual conversations online.
From this tool, you can activate the camera in video calls quickly. After downloading the program by selecting your camera model and installing, simply connect the device to the PC via USB cable and perform a quick setup. For now, Imaging Edge Webcam works only on Windows 10 64-bit.
Not all Sony cameras are compatible with the app, but some of the company’s main models are on the list, including the a6600, the RX100 IV, and the compact ZV-1, recently announced and dedicated to content producers.
You can download the Imaging Edge Webcam for free from the official Sony website.
