It’s been quite a few weeks for friends—and possibly new romantic partner—Taylor Swift.
The pop singer didn’t just offer her public support for Sophie Turner during the British actor’s nasty transatlantic custody battle with her ex-husband Joe Jonas. Swift’s generosity to Turner extended to allowing the “Game of Thrones” star to stay at her New York home while part of the trial unfolds in New York federal court, the Daily Mail reported Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Swift has significantly boosted Kansas City leader Travis Kelce’s already significant public profile, the New York Times reports. She helped fuel rumors that they might be romantically involved by cheering him on at his game on Sunday and being seen leaving Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City with him in a convertible.
Neither Swift nor Kelsea have confirmed their romance, and some believe Swift and Kelsea’s show could have been a PR stunt to increase each other’s fame. But Kelsey was clearly pleased that her appearance at the game broke the Internet, and this week he “thanked” her for appearing. “I absolutely loved the weekend,” Kelsey said on his podcast.
As for Turner, she was photographed leaving Swift’s Tribeca townhouse early Wednesday morning, two days after she and Jonas agreed to keep their two daughters in New York temporarily, according to the Daily Mail, which also published the photos.
The couple’s legal teams are debating whether New York, Miami or UK courts have jurisdiction over divorce and custody of their children, ages 3 and 1.
The Daily Mail reported that Turner left the townhouse with her daughters and was seen helping them into an SUV while a man loaded suitcases and a portable crib into the car. Turner appeared to be makeup-free and wore shorts and a sweatshirt as she walked her girls off before heading back to Swift’s house.
Turner was reportedly staying at the St. Regis last week when she made headlines by posing for photos with Swift and having dinner with the singer twice.
Turner and Swift, who briefly dated Jonas in 2008, had dinner together for the first time on the evening of September 1. 19. The women enjoyed a modest lunch and then left the establishment holding hands in a show of female solidarity that people on social media called “iconic”. The women then headed to the bar for a nightcap and continued socializing, reportedly until 2am, the Daily Mail reported.
Two days later, the women dined together at a more upscale restaurant at the luxury Barriere Fouquet hotel with several other friends.
Swift’s support for Turner is being seen by the public as extremely helpful as the mother of two finds herself embroiled in a brutal PR battle with Jonas.
First of all, Swift is arguably the most powerful woman on the planet. Secondly, she dated Jonas in 2008 and could probably share some war stories with Turner. Swift’s split from Jonas was not amicable: The then 18-year-old told Ellen DeGeneres that the Jonas Brothers singer broke up with her during a 27-second phone call. Swift later wrote songs for her album Fearless: “You All Over Me” and “Mr. Perfectly Fine,” which fans speculated was about a “casually cruel” guy that Jonas could be.
When Jonas filed for divorce from Turner in Miami, his team apparently tried to gain the upper hand in the custody dispute by circulating stories claiming Turner had been busy partying in her native UK in recent months, leaving him to care for their daughters . during his US tour.
In court documents filed in the US District Court of New York, Turner hit back, saying she was the girls’ primary “day-to-day” caregiver and that she was in the UK working on a new series. She accused Jonas of “wrongfully” detaining the girls in the US and refusing to hand over their passports.
Turner said she only allowed Jonas to take the girls with him in the summer while he was on tour because of her busy work schedule and because she knew they would also have a nanny looking after them. She said the girls belong to her in the UK because since the spring they have settled into a daily routine that includes nursery, playgrounds and extra-curricular activities.
Through a spokesman, Jonas denied attempting to “kidnap” his daughters and pointed out that they were born in the US and are therefore US citizens.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Daily Mail and other outlets reported that Turner is now fighting to move the divorce case to the UK, weeks after Jonas initially filed for divorce in Florida. Page Six and other outlets also reported earlier this week that the couple had agreed to a temporary agreement to keep the girls in New York until the matter was resolved.
