Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the newest of the upcoming Marvel movies. Produced by Marvel Studios and Sony, the film starring Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will hit theaters on June 1, 2023, but when will we see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Disney Plus or Netflix?
Unfortunately, the answer isn’t that simple. First, we should note that the film rights to Spider-Man have been held by Sony since the first three Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, played by Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.
If you look closely at the chronology of characters appearing in the MCU, the rights to which Disney now owns, Tom Holland’s incarnation of Spider-Man features quite a lot. The inclusion of the beloved Wall Climber in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the reason for the long negotiations between Sony and Disney.
At this point, the question begs: Will we never be able to see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and the other films in the series on Disney Plus?
Here, too, the answer is not simple: in fact, if it is true that Cinematic Spider-Man belongs to Sony, then Across the Spider-Verse was co-produced by Marvel and Sony itself.
This is cool, especially considering that Disney+ recently opened up a channel dedicated to Spider-Man, though at the moment it doesn’t include the entire catalog, given that the section is called spider verseWe can realistically look forward to one last film dedicated to Spider-Man.
It cannot be denied that sooner or later the film will hit the streaming platform. The bad news is that we don’t yet know when. One must also consider that most of the Spider-Man movies are available on Netflix including the latest release i.e. Spider-Man: No Way Home.
In any case, as a general rule, Disney has established that before a new movie is even available for streaming it must be at least 45 days after its theatrical release.
