Screen Rant is pleased to share an exclusive trailer for the upcoming home release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The animated sequel Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse follows Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy in a new adventure across the multiverse. While the first film brought heroes from across the multiverse to Miles’ world, the sequel sees Miles explore other universes. After Gwen’s father reveals her secret identity, she flees her world in search of solace and teachings from the other Spider-Heroes to help protect the multiverse.
When a threat is discovered in Miles’ world, Gwen visits her friend, who misses the heroes he is associated with, especially Gwen. When he loses his purpose, Miles secretly follows Gwen to another universe, seeking to help her on her mission and earn a place among the defenders of the Multiverse. However, when he learns the terrible truth about his future and feels betrayed by those he trusted most, Gwen and Peter B. Parker, Miles will do anything to return home.
In Screen Rant’s exclusive “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” clip, art director Dean Gordon reveals the inspiration for Gwen Stacy’s world by quoting from her comics. He also explains that in his world, Earth-65, the primary colors of blue, orange, and purple are different from our world’s colors of yellow, red, and blue, immediately visually distinguishing his world. Visual effects supervisor Mike Lasker describes the world as wet and dripping paint.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse explores other universes than those featured in the first film. While Into the Universe the characters and their visual characteristics are carried over into Miles’ world, the sequel shows the differences between the worlds, with Gwen being a perfect example with different primary colors and watercolor-inspired art style. The fusion of these characters, even in worlds so different from their own, is one of the most impressive elements of the film’s animation.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Dave Callahem. The cast of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya and Oscar Isaac. The film is 140 minutes long and is rated PG.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is available digitally now and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on September 5th.
