SportGait partners with Tom Brady’s former company, renamed TBRx

Wilmington-based medical technology startup SportGait announces partnership with TBRx, the rebranding firm of the athletic training and recovery company co-owned by former NFL star Tom Brady .

TBRx was formed out of Brady’s departure from his previous company called TB12, a collaboration between the football player and his body coach and TBRx co-founder Alex Guerrero. According to a TB12 press release obtained by Audacity.com, the company’s new version will open on October 23 and will be located in Franklin, Massachusetts.

TBRx will continue to provide the same physical therapy and rehabilitation services to TB12 clients. SportGait CEO Chris Newton said the company will use the SportGait app to help access TBRx customers. The app can help track a client’s physical recovery progress or conduct an overall health check-up, he said.

SportGait’s app allows users to assess neurocognitive and neuromotor function, which can aid in concussion recovery, according to a press release from SportGait. Newton said the company’s technology at the disposal of TBRx trainers will allow patients to track their injury recovery progress in real time.

Newton said the app will provide exclusive content to TBRx customers.

SportGait has announced 24 partnerships since early August, according to its website. Its partners include public schools, health companies, universities and sports organizations.

Newton said the expansion provides tools for schools and doctors who care for youth athletes.

SportGait’s technology uses four categories to assess neurocognitive and neuromotor function through a patient’s walking, or gait. The company’s patented gait technology monitors strength, balance, stride length and symmetry. The company’s idea comes from the technology’s creator, Dr. Mark Williams.

“How we move through space is a global marker of our overall health,” Newton said.

Newton said he was excited about the deal because the two companies were like-minded. SportGait measures body function and TBRx can treat clients based on SportGait’s technology.

Guerrero, co-founder of TBRx, has made a name for himself in the sports therapy industry through his work with NFL players such as Brady. The two were in business together until news broke on October 11 that Brady would be leaving TB12 and Guerrero would continue to run the company as TBRx.

TB12’s Patriot Place store in Foxboro will close on October 20 and will be replaced by a Franklin store, according to a release from TB12. However, it’s unclear what’s going on with TB12’s other locations and partnerships across the country, including Los Angeles and Tampa.
