Morelia, Michoacan, July 31, 2023. – In Mexico and Michoacan, all newborns must be vaccinated against hepatitis B during the first month of life and against tuberculosis within the first 7 days of life.
For the protection of children, these biological products are provided by the Michoacan State Department of Health (SSM), as well as by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and the State Workers’ Security and Social Services (ISSSTE).
The hepatitis B vaccine should be given 7 days before the baby is born. Failing that, babies should start getting three doses of the vaccine at two, four and six months of age to prevent the disease, which inflames and affects liver function.
Biological BCG protects minors from tuberculosis and must be administered within the first month of life. The regimen involves applying the dose to the upper part of the newborn’s right arm.
The service is completely free, regardless of the institution where the child is born, in order to provide protection against these serious diseases that can be prevented through timely immunization.
It is important to have a National Health Card to get these vaccines. If not, parents can go to the health promotion area of the medical unit and just show the birth certificate and proof of address to get the document.
