Stranger Things Season 5 Suspension Update

star of the TV series Stranger Things, Maya Hawkconfirmed that the Duffer Brothers are supporting the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike by suspending writing until the strike is over.

Netflix’s Stranger Things has captured the imagination of viewers around the world for the past four seasons, but now Netflix’s flagship show is coming to an end with its fifth and final season. Stranger Things is set in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana and stars Hawke, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer , Charlie Heaton, Matthew Modine, Joe Keery, Dacre Montgomery, Sean Astin, Paul Reiser and Pria Ferguson. For the past four seasons, Hawkins has been attacked by otherworldly monsters and shadowy government researchers. The fifth season of Stranger Things will be Hawkins’ biggest battle as the Upside Down prepares to invade the city. Unfortunately, according to Inverse, the wait for Season 5 will be longer than expected due to the ongoing WGA strike.

The Stranger Things creators, the Duffer Brothers, began work on the script for the fifth season in August 2022, and the show was scheduled to begin filming in May 2023. However, production was halted when the WGA went on strike in early May. Hawke said, “I know the Duffer Brothers have been working on this script and will continue to work on it when the strike is over.”

While the Duffer Brothers have already teased early scripts for the fifth season of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers also shared a note in support of the strike on Twitter, stating that “the writing doesn’t stop when filming starts.” Hawke also expressed his hope that the Duffers “come to an equal agreement with the same love, intensity and enthusiasm as every other season, but with the pressure and added specificity of the fact that this is our goodbye.”

All previous seasons of Stranger Things are currently available to stream on Netflix. It’s unlikely there will be any updates on the air date for Season 5 until after the WGA strike is over and the Duffer Brothers agree to resume work on the final season of Stranger Things.
