Soon you will be able to hunt monsters like Akuma, from Street fighter, thanks to the third of Capcom’s five collaborations on the game.
There’s a trend right now that suggests that if a developer wants their game to be a big hit, they have to partner with another series or franchise. This is why Sonic will be a playable character in Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, which is why there are Mario cosmetics in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and also why you can be just about anyone from pop culture in Fortnite by now.
The easiest crossovers to perform for a studio are those in which a character from one series appears in another that takes place in the same studio. Nintendo and Sega have, as noted above, and Capcom has, too. Various characters from different Capcom games have appeared in Monster hunter rise, and now it is the turn of Akuma.

Fans of Street fighter will immediately recognize Akumaas it has been a part of the iconic fighting series for over 25 years. Will come to Monster hunter rise on August 27, and as you can see in the trailer above, it’s all about getting back to basics when it comes to hunting monsters. As in Street Fighter, Akuma likes to try to take down monsters in the game with his bare hands.
Hunting armor Akuma will be an event request reward later this month. When he has no weapons equipped, Akuma will go to work taking down monsters doing what he does best, dealing uppercuts and the like. This is Capcom’s third collaboration in Monster hunter rise, after the incorporation of Amaterasu de Okami. There are still two more collaborations to be announced.
As with the Smash Bros. DLC, you can start speculation about who or what the next two collaborations could be. Mega Man may make an appearance, or perhaps Lady Dimitrescu or some other character from the Resident Evil universe. It’s only been a month between the second and third collaboration, so you probably won’t have to wait that long to find out.
