The number of confirmed cases of invasive Streptococcus pyogenes infections in Argentina reached a record high in 2023, according to the latest epidemiological bulletin from the National Ministry of Health. 643 cases have been reported, with 93 deaths.
“What is believed to be happening is that the bacterium has a more aggressive behavior because it has a new clone, also known as a variant of the bacterium,” the doctor said.
