Succession, that “ridiculously large bag” is the meme we deserve

Poor, wretched Greg. In the first episode of the last season of **Succession **(broadcast on Sky and streaming on Now Tv) Greg «the Egg» (Nicholas Brown) made the grave mistake of leading to the birthday Of Logan a girl, Bridget (Francesca Root-Dodson), who perhaps doesn’t quite know how the others live Social classes. Proof? Your choice of accessoriesthat Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) has masterfully pilloried, setting the internet ablaze with her utterly withering rendition of the Bridget’s “ridiculously large bag”.

“Why?” Tom says bitterly to Greg, explaining the gaffe of his companion. “Because she brought one ridiculously large bag. What’s up with it, huh? Flat shoes for the subway? The lunchbox? Come on, Greg, it’s monstrous. It’s gigantic. You could take her camping. You could slide it on the floor after a bank heist.’

Undoubtedly, the nearly $2,900 Burberry bag was a must-have item. His form (square enough to fit a lunchbox), hers size (monstrous, even gigantic): simply all wrong for an event of thehigh society. Bridget should have known that Logan’s birthday was reserved for Birkins (Kelly’s favorite), or maybe a Telfar, if paired with the right shoes. Calling it a “gaffe” would be an understatement. The internet knows this, and in fact she took Tom’s incredibly specific slur and indulged in it. We all know that if Succession was set in England Jane AustenMr Darcy would have said the same thing.

Despite what this meme would have you believe, Andy (aka budding fashionista from Anne Hathaway in The devil wears Prada) wouldn’t show up with Bridget’s purse even dead. She learned too much from Miranda Priestley Of Meryl Streep to get caught with something that screams “last season” so blatantly.

We have to imagine, however, that if Bridget had had the courage to show up for Logan’s birthday with an Ikea bag in tow, maybe she would have paid her respect (albeit begrudgingly). As disproportionately rich as he is, Logan knows a good deal when he sees it.

And to be fair to Bridget, her purse isn’t the worst to ever see in cinema or television. This honor rightfully belongs to one of the two alternatives kindly offered by the cinematic universe of Sex and the City. Imagine, say, what would have happened if Bridget had gone to Logan’s party with the unsightly Carrie Bradshaw swan-shaped bag… not to mention the Louis Vuitton bag that Carrie gave to her assistant Louise (poor Jennifer Hudson) in the first film of Sex and the Citywidely considered one of the ugliest bags in the history of cinema. We fear Bridget would be laughed out of high society (more so than she already has been).

Bridget, next time you’re invited to a Roy event (which we suspect you never will), consider bringing along a shopping bag of Vanity Fair. Is it “ridiculously spacious”? Probably yes. But she is also sober and elegant. What’s more, she has plenty of room for your handy flat shoes for the subway.
