Superstar Lewis Capaldi tough, honest and unfiltered in new Netflix documentary

Milan, 13 April 2023. Lewis Capaldi releases his new highly anticipated single “Wish You The Best”, available now on all digital platforms and on all Italian radio stations from Friday 21 April. The single is taken from the new studio album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sentdue out worldwide on May 19.

Lewis’ vocals are astounding and here he gets to do what he does best and on his own terms. His writing even improved as my confidence in his abilities grew.

“Wish You The Best” is yet another proof. Partly co-written in Los Angeles with JP Saxe and Malay and finished in Glasgow, the track contains poignant lyrics, piano sound and a stratospheric chorus.

“The single was born from the idea of having in front of a person you used to date in the past and who now tells you all the wonderful things he does without you” – says Lewis Capaldi. “It’s a song about the things we don’t tell these people. I feel fascination towards the unsaid, whether it concerns a relationship or a friendship”.

The moving video clip does the rest.

Superstar Lewis Capaldi is out with a hard, honest, unfiltered music documentary special in collaboration with Netflix, BMG and Pulse Music, with executive production from Independent Entertainment, BMG and Quickfire Films.

The documentary, titled “Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now”, is available on the Netflix platform, where it has become the most watched content in the UK and among the 10 most watched in the world.

Directed by BAFTA winner Joe Pearlman, the film shows the artist at a pivotal moment in his career. It centers on the story of a young artist who returns to his roots after achieving unprecedented global success, attempting to reconnect with his old life and the family and friends he left behind.

After 4 years of touring the world and 5 sold-out headlining tours, screaming crowds and chart records, the singer-songwriter finds himself back in his parents’ old home in Scotland to work on his sophomore album, trying to balance a life normal and a career studded with successes.

“This documentary began with the intention of following the creative process of the “difficult second album”, but ends up being a portrait of how the pressures that follow success affect the life of a young artist, also exploring one of the fundamental themes of our time: mental health”, Sam Bridger explained, head of Pulse Films, the production house behind the film. Bridger added: “It’s an unfiltered entry into the life of one of the biggest stars on the planet and a testament to the courage of Lewis and his team in inviting us into their world. Added to that is the incredible confidence and instincts with storytelling from director Joe Pearlman, producer Alice Rhodes and the entire production team.”

Stuart Souter, Vice-President of BMG Films added: “It’s so much more than just a musical film. With the support of his family, Lewis has opened up in a unique way. Just like his music, we are confident that the film will also make a deep connection with people around the world ”.

It was a stellar comeback for Lewis: #1 in the UK charts in September with the first single ‘forget me’his third No. 1 in the UK chart and a hit with over 200 million streams. It followed ‘Pointless’which gave him his fourth UK No. 1, a feat achieved by artists such as Whitney Houston, Cher, Jay-Z, One Direction, Pharrell, Justin Timberlake and Usher.
The driving idea behind the creation of the new album is simple but powerful: to do exactly the same thing as the first record. No bells, whistles, gimmicks or star-studded features, and no expensive stays in distant recording studios. Exactly like the first project: honest and direct, in terms of music and lyrics. “I didn’t want to create a new sound or reinvent myself. The songs I wanted to write were emotional songs, about love and loss” – says Lewis Capaldi. Capaldi has found a new one groovy that fits him perfectly, with a very simple recording setup that includes laptop, speaker, a Shure SM7B vocal microphone. “I felt like I sang better because I was in my own home and in a comfortable atmosphere.” – continues the artist. “Much of this record was composed with the same people I worked with on my first album: TMS, Phil Plested, Nick Atkinson and Edd Hollowat created most of the record. There is at least one of them in almost every song”.

The debut album “Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent” it was a global success, consider the over 10 million copies sold which made Lewis a superstar all over the world. The single “Someone You Loved”, 5 times Platinum in Italy, was the song of 2019, No. 1 for 7 weeks and the best selling single in the UK that year. It won ‘Song of the Year’ at the Brit Awards the following year (Capaldi also won ‘Best New Artist’). It topped the US Billboard chart and received a Grammy nomination.
