The king has appointed his successor.
Lakers superstar LeBron James, long known as “King James,” honors Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, making him Northeast Ohio’s most notable new athlete after joining Taylor ·Swift’s romance.
“Listen, sometimes you’ve got to give it up to the next guy,” James said during the “Thursday Night Football” substitute broadcast of the Chiefs’ Week 6 win over the Broncos. “What’s going on with Trav right now, and the Swifties, I think I’m going to hand him the crown now. “He deserves it right now. “
James and Kelce both grew up in Ohio, and James became a hero in the state, playing 11 seasons with the Cavaliers and playing twice, including in 2016 when he led the team to its first-ever championship.
Kelce’s romance with Swift has taken the NFL and celebrity world by storm, and the pop star was in attendance at Thursday night’s game at Arrowhead Stadium, which Kansas City won 19-8.
James called out Kelce on his podcast earlier this month along with his brother, Hawks center Jason.
“It’s crazy that I can’t get an invite to your awesome show (sic),” James posted on. “Is it because you guys are truly the King of Northeast Ohio and I claim to be? Seriously! Seriously, you guys are awesome!!”
Kelce, who played with a unstable ankle, had nine catches for 124 yards in Thursday night’s victory.
Swift attended the star-studded premiere of her movie “Eras Tour” in Los Angeles on Wednesday before flying to Kansas City for the game.
Photos obtained by The Daily Mail show she appeared to spend the night at Kelce’s home after the game Thursday night and stayed until Friday night, TMZ later reported.
“I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl and I’m even more on top of the world now, so it’s fun,” Kelce told reporters last week.
“At the same time, (the attention) comes. There are a lot of people who care about Taylor, and for good reason. So… just stay active, work hard to make money, and enjoy the moment.”
