No matter what you think, the WTA has thrived over the years and shown the world the best of women’s tennis. Women’s tennis is now on par with men’s tennis in terms of popularity. But WTA critics fail to understand the point of choosing one side as the best rather than supporting both sides as a whole. Recently, a WTA hater shared his thoughts on women’s tennis, sending the entire tennis world into a tailspin for his comments.

As the Shanghai Masters got underway, early matches between Casper Rudd and Yoshito Nishioka were broadcast live on Tennis Channel. On the other hand, the Beijing Open quarter-final match between Caroline Garcia and Iga Swiatek was not broadcast. The decision to broadcast ATP matches instead of WTA matches caused huge controversy in the tennis world.
One Twitter user shared his strange take on the disaster as he tried to defend the action. He wrote, “Only Twitter fans would find this weird. The rest of the world would rather watch Challenger men’s tennis than the WTA. They do it for a reason, the women’s ratings and ticket sales are terrible. The WTA really sucks .” The WTA hater highlighted how the ATP’s tournament ratings and ticket sales are only one level above women’s tennis.

To which the former Australian tennis player quickly replied: “Oh, man. Tell that to the 3.4 million Americans who watched Coco Gauff win the U.S. Open.”

But Stubbs corrected his point with a recent example from the U.S. Open final nearly a month ago, explaining how 19-year-old Coco Gauff fits into the world of tennis. However, this is not the first time the 52-year-old former tennis player has commented on the famous broadcaster’s choice to ignore WTA competitions.

When tweets about Swiatek’s quarter-final not being televised began circulating on the Internet, the 42-year-old American tennis legend’s former coach joined tennis fans in questioning the broadcaster’s decision. She wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “too disgusting”
In addition to this, other fans also criticized the popular tennis network for not showing the WTA quarter-finals live on the main channel. One fan vented their dissatisfaction and wrote: “Especially the girls played great tennis.”

Another fan thought the WTA tournament was more compelling than the men’s tournament.
“I can confirm that Swiatek-Garcia will be more interesting, Nishioka just doesn’t play ATM,” He wrote.

Later, another person thought this was an example of discrimination and wrote: “Oh I can’t even watch because they aired the early games in Shanghai on the Tennis Channel… I’m sick of it, this shit is so sexist.”
