Magnificent Italy concedes in the final to great Spain
Great tennis and great show that we saw in the Reina Suasbo Cup final between Italy and Spain organized by Circolo Tennis Maglie.
The match ended 3-0 in favor of the Spanish Reds, who struggled a lot to get the better of the Italians.
Singles: Marta Soriano Santiago (ESP) and Francesca Pace (ITA) 6-3 6-3, Ariana Gerlings (ESP) and Federica Urghezi (ITA) 6-7 6-3 6-4. The double, now worthless, was not played with a point going to Spain.
Both teams reached the final in Granville and today’s victory allowed the Iberian teams to claim themselves as the top seed.
Excellent balance on the court, when in the second singles they hoped to play a decisive double with the indomitable Federica Urghezi, who lost on the wire only in the third set.
For third and fourth places, Slovenia beat Greece 2–1. Israel ended the tournament in fifth place, losing to Greece in the quarter-finals.
FITP National Council member Donato Calabrese, represented at the awards ceremony, wanted to thank the teams for their good play and fairness on the pitch, as well as Circolo Tennis Maglie for the excellent success of the event, which confirms their organizational skills.
Event director and club president Antonio Baglivo and club vice president Mario Coppola thanked Donato Calabrese for the certificates received, all the organizational staff for their efforts for the success of the event, the team and especially the Spanish and Italian teams for the excellent result and spectacle on the field.
