Last month, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced that he had initiated a series of additional measures to strengthen the position of his country’s forces in the Middle East region in light of the recent escalation between Israel and the Palestinians, including moving of the Eisenhower Aircraft Carrier Battle Group in the area responsible for Central Command.

A statement released by the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) quoted Austin as saying that these steps will “strengthen deterrence efforts, increase protection of US forces in the region, and help defend Israel.”

Since the outbreak of conflict between Israel and Palestinian factions on October 7, following the sudden attack launched by Hamas against Israeli settlements and military bases in the Gaza Strip, the United States has increased its military readiness in the region and sent more air defense systems to the Middle East.
